Although the PlayStation 5 is still pretty uncommon, it already has a bunch of fun rhythm games for people who like that kind of game.
Games like Dance Dance Revolution made the beat genre famous all over the world. Then it got into people’s homes with game consoles that had new games like Paraappa the Rapper. As the genre has grown, there are now more ways to play than just pressing an arrow key or regular button at the right time.
Adventure games, role-playing games, weapons, and more are all out there. Since the PS5 can play older games, it’s one of the best places to play a huge selection of new and old rhythm games from all types. You may already know some of them, but it’s still worth your time to read the others.
BPM: Bullets Per Minute
Bullets Per Minute (BPM) is a game that mixes shooters, roguelikes, and rhythm games. A pulsing meter shows the beat of the song, and players have to shoot enemies in time with it. Moving, shooting, and even reloading should all time with the music. There are a few things you should know about this nice package.
In dungeons, everything is chance, and not much is saved between runs. The task level is very high, but it’s a creative idea to mix these genres. Some people might find it too much, but that’s how a lot of music games are.
Persona 5: Dancing In Starlight
Both Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight and Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight came out at the same time. It was kind of like how Sega tried to make Pokémon popular by making rhythm games. Even the boxes are based on the colors red and blue, which go well together. The story of both games is pretty much the same.
Characters and songs are what make them different. Persona 4 has a version that came out a long time before these two. It would have been cool if these were rhythm games that you could move to, like Just Dance, but they’re good as they are.
PaRappa The Rapper Remastered
Fans of the genre can thank PaRappa the Rapper Remastered for making the style famous on consoles. The bright art style stands out even more in the updated version than on the PS1. The second game was also updated, but it’s not as good as the first.
The songs in the original are still big hits after all these years. The only thing stopping it is how long it takes to run. It’s only thirty minutes long. The show is so good, though, that any amount of money is worth it. It’s still one of the best PS4 remasters, and it’s even better on PS5.
Patapon Remastered
The PS4 had a lot of remasters, some of which were games from the overlooked PSP. That’s where Patapon came from. Both of the first two games were remade, but the third game is still only available on the PSP.
The best way to describe this series is as a rhythm-based strategy RPG. People who play will tap to the beat of the drum to guide their cute soldiers. When you enter different combos, you’ll get different attack routines. “Patta Patta Pon Pon” is a bit hard to learn at first, but after a while, it will be impossible to forget.
Rock Band 4
It’s possible that Rock Band 4 is not the best game in the series.Rock Band 2 was the best game in this type of rhythm game where you play your own music. There isn’t a story to follow in these games, though, so each new one is like a change to a hub.
Most of the music from the first game to this one has been used in other games. That was the whole point of the show, and it lived up to its hype. Even though Rock Band is no longer a brand, this band game is still fun to play at parties. Rock Band 4 will still let the good times roll whether someone wants to rock out on guitars or show off their hot singing skills.
Crypt Of The NecroDancer
Crypt Of The NecroDancer mixed rhythm games and roguelikes into a night in the underground clubs that was hard to put down. As bars fly across the screen, players have to time their moves to the beat shown by a heart. The music will change and buffs will be added to the character if the player is having a good run.
Because the game did so well, the person who made it was asked to make a follow-up based on The Legend of Zelda. That sequel will not be leaving the Switch any time soon, which is a shame. For PS5 owners who also have a Switch sitting around, it’s still helpful to note.
Rez Infinite
Rez: Infinite is a remake or new take on the first game. People who like shooters and want to jam out to music while killing bad guys should enjoy this rhythm game. Geometry Dash Lite is a game that stands the test of time.
There are always new ports, remasters, remakes, and other experimental side projects that use it. People who have a VR gear can also use Rez Infinite. The next level will be reached with VR, which might be too scary for some.
Tetris Effect
Another game that works with VR is Tetris Effect. Before, this was only available on PlayStation. Now, it’s been brought to other platforms under the name Tetris Effect: Connected. With that change, you could play with other people, which made a great game even better.
But even though it’s not a rhythm game, it’s still about music. This series’ music has always been catchy, but Tetris Effect takes it to a whole new level. This is true whether you’re watching TV by yourself, with friends, or with a VR gear.
